  • Rice's ex-girlfriend alleged repeated physical abuse during their relationship, including incidents while she was pregnant

  • Rice previously served a six-game suspension after a 2024 high-speed crash that injured multiple people

The National Football League has concluded its investigation into abuse allegations againstRashee Rice, determining that theKansas City Chiefswide receiver will not face discipline under the league's personal conduct policy.

In astatementreleased Friday, the NFL said it had closed its inquiry after finding "insufficient evidence to support a finding that he violated the personal conduct policy."

"Mr. Rice wants to thank the NFL for their thorough investigation, and looks forward to the start of the 2026-27 NFL season," Rice's attorney, Sean Lindsey, said in a statement toThe Associated PressandESPN. The Chiefs have not publicly commented on the NFL's decision.

The investigation began in February after Rice's former girlfriend,Dacoda Jones, alleged in a lawsuit that he had physically assaulted her multiple times over the course of their relationship, resulting in injuries including bleeding and bruising.

According to court documentspreviously reviewed by PEOPLE, Jones filed her lawsuit in Dallas County District Court on Feb. 16, alleging that she was "physically assaulted" by Rice at residences in Texas and Missouri between December 2023 and July 2025.

The lawsuit describes what Jones characterized as "an escalation in violent behavior," alleging repeated incidents over that time period. She claimed Rice "grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted" her, along with other alleged acts including throwing objects, destroying property and locking her out of the home.

The petition further alleges that some of the incidents occurred while she was pregnant and resulted in injuries, including "bleeding, swelling, bruising and other pain and physical injury" to multiple parts of her body. Jones is seeking at least $1 million in damages.

Rice was served notice of the lawsuit on Feb. 18, according to court records.

In response to the lawsuit, Lindsey toldESPNin February, "On October 9th, 2025, well after the parties' relationship had ended, Ms. Jones stated under penalty of perjury in a sworn Affidavit for Non-Prosecution that 'Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.' We will allow the legal process to run its course and have no further comment at this time."

The two were previously in a long-term relationship and share two children together.

Before filing the lawsuit, Jones published since-deleted images of bruises and wounds on her body in January, alleging that she was abused. She did not name her alleged abuser in the post.

Dan Hurley family tree: Explaining UConn coach's family basketball ties

Dan Hurleyfinds himself in an all too familiar situation on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis whenConnecticut men's basketballtakes on Illinoisin the Final Four.

USA TODAY Sports

It is the third Final Four in the last four seasons that the 53-year-old coach has led the Huskies to during their six-year rise back to being one of thetop college basketball programsin the country.

He holds a 17-3 record in March Madnesswith the Huskies, and is looking to become the seventh Division I men's basketball coach to win at least three national championship titles. Remove the first two seasons that Hurley led the Huskies tothe NCAA Tournament, both of which were first-round exits, UConn is 17-1 in its last 18 March Madness games.

MORE:Dan Hurley clears air on interaction with ref in UConn's win vs Duke

The Huskies' success under Hurley has not only established him asone of the top coaches in the countryand garnered interest from the NBA (hello,Los Angeles Lakers), but it has also bumped their resume upon the blue blood rankings list, which can see them move past Duke with their seventh title in program history.

But Hurley's success and rise in his profession also put a spotlight on his roots and how he got started in coaching, which, if you know anything about the Hurley family, all started in a gymnasium in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Here's what to know about Hurley's family tree:

Dan Hurley family tree

Who is Dan Hurley's dad?

Dan Hurley is the son of legendary New Jersey high school basketball coach Bobby Hurley Sr., who is alsoenshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Bobby Hurley Sr. spent nearly four decades as a high school basketball coach at St. Anthony's in Jersey City.In his 39 seasons at St. Anthony's,Bobby Hurley Sr. won over 1,000 games and 28 state championships while turning the program into a national powerhouse. He also led St. Anthony's to 18 undefeated seasons.

As noted by CT Insider, Dan Hurley went head-to-head against his dad for nine seasons from 2001 to 2010 at the high school circuit, as the UConn head coach started his career at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark. Bobby Hurley Sr. retired from coaching after the 2016-17 basketball season, when St. Anthony was forced to shut down due to declining enrollment and finances.

The two-time NCAA national championship coach fielded multiple questions about being a byproduct of a high school basketball coach, and whether his intensity on the sidelines comes from that, ahead of UConn's second-round game vs. UCLA, whereDan Hurley went up against Mick Cronin, whose dad was also a high school coach.

"If you don't like me, you'd hate my dad. I bet Mick would say the same thing. We're coach's kids. For me, growing up in Jersey, North Jersey, Jersey City, I coach the way my dad would be coaching this college. Whether you would like that or not," Dan Hurley said. "You just have a special relationship to your team, to your players, to the outcome, to the lifestyle of being a coach when you're a coach's kid.

"It's so personal for coaches like me and Mick, which is where you see, at times, emotional reactions to things that happen on the court because it truly feels like, personally, it's your world, your team. The outcome of the game, it manifests itself sometimes in how we behave."

KING OF THE BLUE BLOODS?How UConn can pass Duke this weekend

Following UConn's win over Duke in the Elite Eight, Bobby Hurley Sr. told college basketball reporter Adam Zagoria that the Huskies' come-from-behindwin against the Blue Devils, which featureda buzzer-beaterfromBraylon Mullins, "the singularly most incredible moment" he's seen in person following a college basketball game.

"In the times I've been around it, this is the singularly most incredible moment (I've seen) following college basketball. I don't think I've ever been around the game where we were on the right end of a last-second shot," Hurley told Zagoria.

Who is Dan Hurley's brother?

Dan Hurley's brother is Bobby Hurley Jr., the former Duke All-American guard under Mike Krzyzewski and recently fired Arizona State basketball head coach.

Bobby Hurley Jr. helped guide the Blue Devils to a pair of national championship titles in 1991 and 1992, while recording career totals of 1,731 points, 1,076 assists, 306 rebounds, and 202 steals in 140 career games. His 1,076 career assists used to be the NCAA all-time career record, but he was recentlysurpassed by Purdue guard Braden Smith.

Who are Dan Hurley's sons?

Dan Hurley has two sons, Danny and Andrew, with his wife, Andrea.

His son Danny attended Seton Hall University, his father's alma mater, while Andrew was a walk-on for his dad at UConn and a member of the Huskies' back-to-back national championship teams in 2023 and 2024. Andrew Hurley iscurrently a graduate assistant on UConn's coaching staffand will earn his MBA this spring.

NEED TO KNOW

  • Filming the Red Sea parting scene took six months and required 360,000 gallons of water and a 32-foot-high ramp on Paramount's lot

  • In the end, it paid off, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1956, and it remains a classic 70 years later

The Ten Commandmentswas a cultural phenomenon when it came out in 1956 and remains a classic to this day.

When making the film, directorCecil B. DeMilleknew it was going to be an undertaking of biblical proportions — and that it was. The legendary filmmaker and studio dedicated a tremendous amount of time and resources to the project, which ultimately paid off in the end.

In fact, they spent months filming just one scene due to the technical and cinematic challenge it posed. According to theScience Museum Group, theparting of the Red Sea sequence"took 6 months to create, with scenes shot on the banks of the Red Sea and at the Paramount backlot."

The scene was a product of rear projection and optical photography, as there were no computer effects at the time.

The production team created the walls of water "using a tilted ramp approximately 32 feet high and 80 feet long," which resided on the Paramount Pictures lot. When it came to filming, they released large amounts of water down the walls from large tanks.

"The water was supplied by an elevated tank through 15 manually controlled hydraulically operated valves, allowing the 360,000 gallons of water to cascade down in a thin sheet," per the museum.

They built long wooden batons along the ramp, breaking the water into "choppy tides and undertow." They then reversed the film to give the impression of the water going up and "the sea parting."

Filming the scene was saved for last because the chariots that were seen throughout the movie were destroyed during the flooding.

Charlton Heston, who played Moses, filmed his scenes in front of a blue screen so his takes could be combined with the other elements later. They also shot the desert landscape and added matte paintings to build an even larger environment while simultaneously covering up any seams between the different elements.

Each of these elements was then combined using optical printing, which meant they all had to be perfectly aligned or it would be visible to the audience. The result was the sequence viewed by so many, 70 years later.

The biblical adventure drama film — produced, directed and narrated by DeMille — featured Heston, Yul Brynner, Anne Baxter, Edward G. Robinson, Yvonne De Carlo and Debra Paget.

The Ten Commandmentswas the most expensive film produced at that time. However, after the movie was released, it became the highest-grossing film of 1956 and the second most successful of the decade, bringing in $122.7 million, or what would be equivalent to nearly $1.5 billion today.

The Ten Commandmentswill air on ABC on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 7 p.m. ET.

The NFL announced April 3 it had concluded its investigation into the accusations made against Rice by his former girlfriend, asESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Report: NCAA Tournament expansion to 76 will be finalized after Final Four

NCAA's leadership and basketball committees are expected to finalize expansion of the men's and women's NCAA Tournaments to 76 teams shortly after the conclusion of this year's tournament, Yahoo Sports reported on Friday.

Field Level Media

Per the report, the new format would see 52 teams earn berths directly into what is currently the first round of the NCAA Tournament, while the remaining 24 -- 12 lower-seeded automatic qualifiers and the final 12 at-large teams -- would play 12 opening-round games Tuesday and Wednesday. They would be held in the longtime First Four home of Dayton, Ohio, and at an additional site to determine which teams would advance to Thursday and Friday's first round.

However, these details could also reportedly change as the NCAA continues to talk with its men's tournament TV partners in Warner Bros. Discovery and CBS, which have broadcasting rights through the 2031 tournament.

The report didn't indicate how quickly expansion could be added, but it could theoretically come as soon as the 2027 NCAA Tournaments. But expansion "will happen" barring something unforeseen in the next few days.

It would mark the first expansion of the tournament since the field moved from 65 to 68 teams with the addition of the First Four games in 2011. The field had been 64 or 65 teams since 1985.

The Big 12 and Atlantic Coast Conference were the leading voices behind tournament expansion, according to the report. However, it's also something that NCAA president Charlie Baker has said he's in favor of doing.
